In my society in Canada, the risk of litigation has put on stranglehold on our ability to offer safe risks. My school doesn't even have a playground because of the costs of insurance. I am truly concerned for the future of our bubble-wrapped children. If they grow up thinking that nothing bad ever happens, they become teenagers and young adults who take risks without fully understanding the consequences. A few bumps and even a broken arm is a small price to pay for know one's boundaries. Thank you for this post. In my view it would be just plain cruel to deprive kids of the amazing reward that comes of the feeling of accomplishment when overcoming a challenge and then mastering it. What a shame this view is not shared by all in our society. We've had our fair share of concerned and scornful looks and comments, and felt judged as reckless, negligent parents. However I only have to look at how adept the kids are, see the trust they have in their own capabilities, and observe their willingness to give anything a try to know we're doing the right thing. Thank you guys for giving all those kids that opportunity too.Melissa Abbottnoreply@blogger.com
